I'm with you and really like both the Housing Works store itself and what they do with their profits. Their events aren't half bad either - I hope to go back one day :) Anna Hi Jim,

Thanks for stopping by – it’s always great to hear from a fellow bookshop enthusiast. I’m with you and really like both the Housing Works store itself and what they do with their profits. Their events aren’t half bad either – I hope to go back one day :)

The Strand is simply overwhelming. There are so many nooks and books that I suspect even people living in NYC full time have never had time to discover all that the store has to offer. Housing Works on the other hand is much more user friendly, and there are great bargains and hard to find books waiting to be discovered by the patient reader. Knowing that my money helps support the organisation with its important work makes this book shop one of my regular New York haunts. The Bryant Park Reading Room is a lovely idea, and a nice way to relax in a great location with a coffee, while browsing through a magazine or reading a chapter or two of a book you might otherwise not have thought to read.
